Class Descriptions
Basics
For students new to yoga or students looking for a simple alignment based approach to Yoga stretching, strengthening, breathing, and mindfulness. This class aims to provide just the right balance between challenge and relaxation and will give you basic tools to feel better in your body every day.
Mixed Level
For students with at least 6 months of Iyengar Yoga experience; this dynamic class will have a different focus each week, cover a wide variety of poses including inversions such as headstand and shoulderstand (or non weight bearing alternatives) and invite you to develop a deeper relationship with your yoga practice.
Empower
Invigorating and faster paced, this fun class welcomes most levels and is designed to condition. Each week is a different mix of strength work and vinyasa(flow). Students are encouraged to modify, and rest as desired. Ideal for the practitioner that likes to keep it moving and appreciates the alignment instruction that Iyengar Yoga is known for.
Healthy Aging
This all levels and all ages class is suitable for beginners and those with mild injuries. It moves at a slower pace and is designed to help you feel stable, free, and joyful in movement. Each week will include poses for core strength, balance, and relaxation. Often we practice with chairs for added stability and support. Modifications will be given for creaky backs, knees, hips, shoulders, you name it!
Feel Good Friday Flow
In this all-levels Iyengar flow class with Leslie, you can expect thoughtfully sequenced poses, attention to detail, and the use of props to support a deeper experience of each posture. The class builds gradually, cultivating strength, openness, and clarity to carry into the rest of your day.
Our Teachers
Katie Davidson
Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, Level 3, Certified Yoga Therapist
Katie has over 30 years working with bodies as a massage therapist and 25+ as an Iyengar Yoga teacher. A long-time teacher at Yoga Northwest (formerly in Bellingham), Katie was initially drawn to yoga as a way to care for her body amidst the demands of a full-time massage practice and the challenge of scoliosis. In subsequent years she has found yoga to be a tremendous support; both the depth of knowledge within the Iyengar Yoga Lineage and the caring and friendships within the worldwide Iyengar community. Katie’s love of yoga is contagious and her classes are inspiring, informative, and empowering. She studies regularly with Abhijata Iyengar and Rebecca Lerner and has travelled to India multiple times. She is a mother of two teen boys and loves to be active outside in all seasons.
Charlotte Sather
Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, Level 1
Charlotte began studying yoga in 1995 and has been teaching since 2006. After studying in India in 1998, she focused her training in the Iyengar tradition. She has trained with many senior Iyengar teachers, including Dean and Rebecca Lerner, Patricia Walden, Joan White, and Marla Apt and currently studies with Katie. Charlotte holds an advanced certification in Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga. Through her own experiences in class and home practice, she has developed techniques to help larger body types find ease and stability in the postures. Her compassionate and energetic teaching approaches yoga as a path of self-exploration and stress relief. She believes that everybody can benefit from—and truly enjoy—the art of yoga.
Leslie Lekos
Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, Intermediate Junior 1
Leslie has been a student of yoga since 2000 and became an instructor in 2009. She taught at Yoga Northwest for many years and is happy to be teaching alongside Katie again here at Repose. As her main work, she is the director and founder of Wildroot Botanicals, a local herbal medicine school and herbal medicine company that focuses on bioregional medicine.
